CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS - ARTICLE VI
Elections
Section 1 (a) The First Vice-President at the expiration of her term of office shall automatically assume the office of President. If that officer is not eligible or is unable to continue as President, there shall be an election by ballot for the office of President at such Conference as next precedes a Biennial Convention of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs.
(b) A First Vice-President, two Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer, Editor and Chair of Young BPW committee (or Provincial representative of Young BPW ) shall be elected by ballot at such Conference. (amended 2000)
(c) At the opening of such Conference, the President shall appoint Scrutineers.
(d) The District Directors and the Assistant District Directors shall be elected by ballot at the District Meetings, following such Conference by the delegates from each Club in the District.
(e) Club President, Secretary or Treasurer shall not serve as a District Director while holding office.
Section 2 (a) Nominations for the office of two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Editor and Chair of Young BPW may be made from the floor of conference, providing consent of such nominee has been first obtained
(b) Nominations for the offices of District Director and Assistant District Director may be made from the floor of the District Meeting, providing the consent of such nominee has been first obtained.
Section 3 (a) In any election in which the number of candidates is in excess of one over the number required to fill any office, the name of the candidate receiving the lowest number of votes shall be removed and another ballot shall be taken. This procedure shall be followed until one candidate receives the majority of votes. This procedure shall be repeated until the required majority is obtained for all offices.
(b) When there are three (3) or more candidates for the office of Vice-President, the name of the candidate receiving the lowest number of votes shall be removed from the list and the names of the remaining candidates announced at the Conference.
(c) No nomination shall be allowed from the floor for the office of First Vice President or President. It shall be the duty of the Nominations Committee to ensure that there are suitable candidates for these positions. (amended 2000)
Section 4 A member of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Ontario, with the exception of the Provincial Past President, is not permitted to hold an executive position on the Provincial Board if she also holds an executive position on the National Board (effective with the 1988 elections).
Section 5 Campaigning by Nominees
(a) Campaigning may take place only during the Annual Conference. Beginning on Friday evening and ending on Saturday with the candidates’ speeches. Pre-conference campaigning is limited to a "bio" produced on the Ontario website or included in the President's April mailings, or both.
(b) Campaign materials including all costs for producing is at the candidate's own expense or that of a sponsor.
(c) Total cost of all forms of campaigning, including donations of any kind (photocopying, party food, etc.) is not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100).
(d) An expense account with accompanying receipts is to be given to the Ontario Treasurer upon registration at the Annual Conference.
